Family Mediation
The costs and likely number of mediation sessions required
The cost will vary from one provider to another. Shire mediation currently charges £70.00 per person per hour for family mediation (unless a person qualifies for free mediation).
In mediations related to separation and divorce there is a charge of 2 hours for drawing up the Open Summary and Memorandum of Understanding.
The number of hours required will depend on the complexity of a particular case, but the range is between 2-7 sessions of between 1-2 hours for mediation related to separation and divorce.
In mediations related to other family issues such as:
- Disputes between a parent and a child
- Disagreement over care for an elderly or seriously ill relative
- Grandparent contact with their grandchildren
- Any other issues which may cause disagreement within a broad family situation.
The number and length of the mediation sessions will be adapted to suit the needs of the particular issue.
