Family Mediation
Family Consultant,
a family mediator who has undergone additional training
Sometimes couples who are divorcing opt to use solicitors in a process called Collaborative Law. This involves meetings at which both parties and their legal advisors are present. Each party would have a private meeting with their own solicitor and review and discuss information relevant to the divorce proceedings including any issues related to children of the relationship and all financial matters. The two parties and their legal advisors then have a joint meeting with the objective of reaching an understanding on all the matters relating to the separation and divorce.
The process of separation and divorce can be very stressful for all concerned, so the parties have the option of discussing their concerns and feelings with a Family Consultant. The parties can “share” a family consultant or each of them can have their own family consultant.
Discussions held in time “out sessions” with a family consultant can help individuals to come to terms with any emotions they may be feeling and assist them to gain clarity about the issues and options being discussed in the four way sessions with the solicitors. The parties may need support as they adjust to the practical realities of the divorce and the many major changes in finance, accommodation and care of the children that may need to be implemented. The role of family consultant is very flexible but in all cases they have a commitment to help the process for all concerned in addition to their client/clients.
Jane Shire has qualified as a Family Consultant and if you and your partner have chosen the Collaborative Law route to settle the matters relating to your divorce, you can also call on her help and support during sometimes stressful and emotional negotiations.
